Question: Is there anyway to get a prepaid apple iphone?

OK so I would really like to purchase an iPhone except I don't want to be locked in to a 2 year plan so I'm wondering: what are my options? Is there anyway to unlock the iPhone and use it as a prepaid cell phone? Is this complicated? Is it worth it? Also I am moving to Australia in a few months - if I do manage to unlock my iPhone could I then use it with Telstra prepaid in Oz? I'm sorry if this seems awfully complicated, like I said I'm not sure if its possible but I'd appreciate any tips or advice. Thanks in advance

You're not obligated to purchase an iphone with a contract in many countries outside of the USA. In some countries like Singapore and Israel, it is even illegal for phone carriers to lock any of their phones. You have two routes here if you don't want to sign a contract. 1) The Legal and Expensive Way If you live in places like UK, France or Canada, where iphones can be purchased unlocked and you dun mind paying more, purchase it from the Apple store there and you can pretty much pop in any sim card you like. If not you can either ask a friend who lives there for help or EBay. If you can wait, you may also want to wait till you reach Oz and go to an Apple store there. 2) The Illegal and Cheap Way Get a locked IPhone and Jailbreak it before unlocking it. One question though, why choose Tel$tra?

Iphone, regardless of country, has to be on a contract account.... Only if you jailbreak the iphone can it work on a prepaid account, in any country..... my advise... get an iphone, jailbreak it, and put a prepaid Telstra sim in it... and walla... have fun... For jailbreaking steps, see the millions of videos on youtube.... good luck

What you could do is buy an iPhone on e-bay or wherever. You will have to jailbreak and unlock it, I recommend looking at youtube for that. After that, you go and get the prepaid package and put the sim card in your unlocked iphone, and bam it works! You may need to download the carrier settings to get data to work. I recommend help.benm.at. You click enable tethering, then scroll down to your country, then pick the carrier you're using and you now have working internet.
